Restore Youthful Vision with Multifocal Lenses

If you stop and think about it, your happiness and well-being directly correlates with the quality of your vision. If your eyesight has declined to a point where you cannot enjoy these activities anymore – due to cataracts – you may be surprised to learn that our fellowship-trained cataract surgeon, Dr. Nunnery, may actually be able to restore your youthful vision. Today’s cataract surgery techniques (both traditional and laser-assisted) combined with amazing lens replacement technologies, can improve both your vision and your quality of life.

You Have Choices

During cataract surgery, your cloudy cataract lens is gently removed and a new lens is permanently implanted into your eye. You have a choice as to what type of lens best meets your needs:

  • Traditional monofocal lenses - provide clear vision for a single distance (most often distance vision). Patients will still need glasses for some tasks.
  • Multifocal Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) are known as Advanced lenses and provide clear vision to match your lifestyle. These lenses give you the opportunity to enjoy a full range of activities with clear vision. With multiple focusing zones placed directly onto the lens, these allow you to see up-close for reading, far away to watch your golf ball fly, and all zones in between. In fact, some patients don’t even need reading glasses or bifocals after surgery.

Multifocal and Toric Intraocular Lens (IOL) Options

  • Multifocal IOLs: Provide clearer vision at most distances (near and far) because they have multiple focusing powers built into the lens; most patients will not require glasses after surgery.
  • Extended Depth of Focus IOLs: Provides a continuous range of vision from arm’s length to distance. Some patients will require glasses for detailed near vision.
  • Toric IOLs: Provide correction of corneal astigmatism (to decrease dependency on glasses) and clear vision for a single distance.
