Charity Brumley (31) of Kannapolis, NC is an avid swimmer, mountain biker and hiker. To say that her contact lenses were an inconvenience is an understatement! Charity always had to make sure she had an extra pair of contacts with her, because they often fell out or dried her eyes out.
Her consultation with Dr. Mozayeni at Providence Eye & Laser Specialists was actually her second consultation after not feeling totally comfortable with her first experience at another practice. After examining her vision, the health of her eyes and analyzing her corneas, Dr. Mozayeni determined she was a great candidate for PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy). PRK is similar to traditional LASIK in that it utilizes the same exact laser technology to reshape the cornea and correct distance vision. The main difference is that with PRK, Dr. Mozayeni does not create a corneal flap, making this a single laser procedure.
Charity jumped in feet first in July 2016 for her PRK surgery. We spoke with Charity 9 months after about her experience and she had nothing but wonderful things to say.
“PRK was the best procedure I have ever committed to and I absolutely love Providence Eye. Whenever I talk about my PRK experience, I tell them it is the best thing I have ever done and encourage them to visit Providence Eye to see if they qualify.”
Charity is not just your summer swimmer; she swims in open water races! “I love to swim and be outside, so wearing glasses or contacts was always such a nuisance. My favorite result from having PRK is not having to worry about water in my eyes at the pool or open water. Because I chose to have PRK, I was able to complete the Swim the Loop, a 3.5 mile swim at Wrightsville Beach. Not having to worry about my contacts during a salt water swim was a-freaking-mazing.”
We asked Charity why she wanted to share her story she said, “I hope it will help someone else with his or her decision. I waited 3 years to finally commit to laser vision correction surgery and wish I hadn't put it off!”
Charity has one more post-op visit and then she will transition to annual general eye exams. Just like Charity, you too can start to see more and live better. Contact us today to schedule your free consultation to see if you are a candidate for LASIK or PRK.
