LASIK can be an excellent option for those wanting to correct both distance and reading vision. Through a procedure called monovision, Dr. Mozayeni at Providence Eye & Laser Specialists can help correct both your distance and reading vision at the same time. Regardless if your eyes are:
- Nearsighted
- Farsighted
- And/or have Astigmatism
Dr. Mozayeni has been performing monovision LASIK for many of his patients since 1994, however, the advancement in technology has made it a much better option since 2004 when he introduced the WaveLight Allegretto Laser to the Charlotte area and its subsequent revision, the WaveLight Allegretto Eye-Q in 2009. With monovision the non-dominant eye is set to be focused for near vision and the dominant eye for distance. The brain can “learn” to adapt to this and use the dominant eye for distance and the other eye for reading vision. Of course, it is required to “test drive” this procedure before any surgery so we can make sure this is the right option for you. We provide this service under the direction of Dr. Mills and our contact lens division.
We normally recommend that you “test drive” monovision with contact lenses for approximately two (2) weeks. Often times a person will find that although the first few days may have some challenges, that they really enjoy monovision after a couple weeks. If you and the Providence Eye & Laser Specialists team concur, then monovision can be created with either OptiLASIK All-laser, blade-free LASIK or PRK All-laser, blade-free and non-flap LASIK.
If during your consultation Dr. Mozayeni discovers a cataract or the onset of cataracts he may refer you to a cataract specialists so that you can investigate lens replacement such as Restor©, Rezoom© or Crystalens©. It is only these patients that Dr. Mozayeni feels that a lens replacement is appropriate. Never at Providence Eye & Laser Specialists has Dr. Mozayeni recommended replacing a healthy lens with an artificial lens to achieve better vision. A healthy lens is a valuable part of your body. He feels there are better ways to achieve clearer vision.
At Providence Eye & Laser Specialists, we always discuss all FDA approved options with you, but only recommend those that we would have done on ourselves. Which procedure, if any, is best for you is dependent upon many factors that will be discussed at your consultation.
To achieve the best result it has been proven that a comprehensive individualized consultation is required. Dr. Mozayeni plays a key role in this consultation process reviewing all diagnostic testing conducted by his technicians, examining your eyes himself, and talking to you about your health, eye health, lifestyle and desired goals.
