Dr. Doug Meardon is a Family Medicine Physician at Atrium Health Care here in Charlotte, North Carolina. After decades of glasses and contacts, Dr. Meardon decided to make the move and consider laser vision correction surgery in early 2022. Like so many people, Dr. Meardon’s vision wasn’t terrible. He could navigate to the bathroom at night and grab a cup of coffee in the morning all without glasses or contacts. But a fuzzy world was not Dr. Meardon’s goal for his personal or professional life.
Q: Dr. Meardon, we are excited to hear about your journey to having LASIK! But, before we hear about that, let’s get to know you better. Can you tell us about yourself and your family?
A: I am originally from Raleigh, NC, I moved to Charlotte for my medical training and ultimately stayed to practice medicine. I’m married to my husband Eric and we have an amazing daughter Ava and a dog named Madison.
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
A: As a physician, I tend to work long hours, but when I do have free time, I enjoy traveling with my family and reading. But by far my favorite thing to do is to attend concerts! I recently went to Matt Maeson concert. It was awesome to be able to see band so clearly.
Q: What made you decide to get all-laser LASIK?
A: I had been considering LASIK for over 5 years. I had given up contacts due to the sheer inconvenience. I was generally fine with glasses except for sunny days, which fortunately are many days here in Charlotte. I got really motivated when my husband, Eric, had LASIK at Providence Eye & Laser Specialists and no longer needed his contacts or glasses. I knew that LASIK was in my future. However, I wanted to do it in the most fiscally responsible way I could for my family and for us that was saving to pay for my LASIK with my Health Savings Account(HSA). Once I had saved all of the money, I was ready to schedule my consultation!
Q: What was the deciding factor that Dr. Nunnery was the right surgeon for you?
A: Since I was already familiar with Providence Eye from my husband’s experience, I knew that was where I would have my procedure. I looked carefully at Dr. Nunnery’s credentials and when I met him during my consultation, he made me feel very comfortable and confident in his skills as a surgeon.
Q: What aspect of your life has changed most dramatically since your all-laser LASIK with Dr. Nunnery?
A: I have a bit of a hectic schedule being a physician and having a family. Not having to worry about glasses or contacts enables me to jump in the car and just go whenever I want. I love that I don’t have to choose between sunglasses or regular glasses anymore.
Q. Would you recommend that others consider LASIK with Dr. Nunnery at Providence Eye? And, why?
A: Yes, I would! Dr. Nunnery was great! He took the time to get to know me as a person, I never felt like a number. I had many questions and he took the time to answer all of them in detail so that I felt comfortable moving forward with my procedure. Dr. Nunnery and his entire team were so thorough during consultation, procedure and follow-up. I followed all of the post-operative instructions they gave me and had a really quick recovery.
Q: Dr. Meardon, here is our last question, what is your favorite ice cream flavor?
A: Chocolate fudge, Two Scoops Creamery is my favorite local place.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience, Dr. Meardon. We are so happy to hear that you are enjoying the convenience of not needing glasses or contacts anymore!
