At Providence Eye & Laser Specialists, we treat all our patients as individuals. During the consultation, Dr. Mozayeni, our founder and only LASIK surgeon, will perform a thorough examination to determine if you are a suitable candidate for any laser vision correction procedure. For example, you may think you are a candidate for traditional LASIK, but since it is not a “one size fits all” surgery, Dr. Mozayeni may determine you are a suitable candidate for PRK LASIK instead. PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) and LASIK utilize the same exact laser technology to reshape your cornea and correct distance vision, but the main difference between the two is that with PRK, Dr. Mozayeni does create a corneal flap, making this a single laser procedure.

"Getting PRK was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I had wanted laser eye surgery for years but had heard horror stories and wanted to wait until technology improved. During my consultation, he did the most thorough eye exam I've ever had and found a problem with my retina that no one had ever identified (I've been to an optometrist every year since I was 7 and I am now 34 years old). I had both eyes done at the same time and was in the surgical suite less than 10 minutes. It was just like you hear--as soon as you sit up you can see! They offered me a sedative for surgery which I gladly accepted. I felt zero pain during the surgery. I actually felt nothing at all until the end when they flushed my eyes with a cold solution that gave me a "brain freeze/ice cream headache" for a few seconds--that was the worst part of the whole thing. After surgery, I had no pain--just some light sensitivity and discomfort but no pain whatsoever. Dr. Mozayeni gave me a prescription for plenty of pain medication (it was good to have for peace of mind) but I didn't need to take any. He called me personally the evening of my surgery to check to see how I was doing.
Before having PRK, I had 20/200 vision (I couldn't see the big "E" on the top of the eye chart). One week after having PRK, I was 20/40 and four weeks out I am 20/15.
