Name: Carissa Goddard
Originally From: New Martinsville, WV
Currently Lives: Charlotte, North Carolina
Years in Charlotte: 17 Years
Q: Carissa, before you share your LASIK testimonial, will you tell us a little about yourself and your family?
A: I’m originally from New Martinsville in West Virginia, and I moved to Charlotte about 17 years ago. My husband Chad and I have been married for 16 years have two children, a 14-year-old boy named Cayden, and an 11-year-old daughter named Emalynn (also pictured in the photo). I am the Assistant Director of Enrollment Management at Providence Day School.
Q: Tell us a bit about your vision before having LASIK.
A: I got my first pair of glasses when I was 8 years old in second grade and eventually moved to contacts. I had a pretty significant astigmatism so finding corrective lenses that were comfortable and allowed me to see as well as my glasses was very difficult and expensive. As I got older and after having our children, it seemed that contacts, no matter what brand I tried, just weren’t comfortable. So, I pretty much moved to wearing glasses all the time.
Q: What do you enjoy most today with your new and improved vision, free of glasses and contact lenses?
A: It’s the little things – being able to read and watch TV without glasses, the ability to be active with my family without worrying about a torn contact.
Q: Carissa, we’re so glad to have had the chance to get to know you over the past few years. What was the deciding factor to have LASIK surgery, and that Dr. Mozayeni at Providence Eye was the right surgeon for you?
A: I had heard about LASIK years ago when I was in college, and it was always something I wanted to have done. After years of contemplating I finally decided this was something that I wanted to do for myself.
Once I had made that decision, I researched online about the different LASIK surgeons in Charlotte and asked around, and people all said great things. I also kept hearing his ads on the radio. When I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Mozayeni and his wife, Kristen, through school, he was so nice and obviously caring, and I just knew it was time.
Q: You will be celebrating your 2-year LASIK anniversary in December. Now that you look back, was it a good decision?
A: Oh my gosh, YES!
Q: That’s an answer we actually hear a lot! We’re so glad you’re happy with your decision to have LASIK surgery and that you trusted us with such an important decision. What aspect of your life changed most dramatically after LASIK?
A: So many things that only people with corrective lenses would understand, such as, waking up and being able to see the alarm clock, wearing sunglasses whenever I want, laying on the couch watching TV without my glasses being smushed into the side of my face. I definitely don’t miss the itchy, tired eyes I would get from contacts or the sore pressure points behind my ears from my glasses.
Q: When you are not working, what do you like to do with your new and improved vision?
A: I love to read, and I play in two volleyball leagues with my husband.
