It’s Diane again. Now I’m wearing the Monovision lenses. If you’ve read my first guest post, you’ll remember that I’ve started to concur my fear of LASIK by ‘test driving’ these lenses. As a first time contact lens wearer, I have found I am not a big fan of contacts. It’s been very difficult getting them in and out of my eyes. Secondly, my left eye contact is thicker than my right eye contact so that’s also uncomfortable. The Monovision is great except my distance vision is not as good as I was hoping. Up close I can see everything so clearly. It’s wonderful! However, I can’t explain it but when I am driving I feel it is hard to focus in on some things. For me personally, this was not the ideal situation, I didn’t like it.
I called the office after three days of my “test drive” and explained how I was feeling. They were great listening to my experience and concerns. I was told in advance that it works great for many people but not for all. I asked if they had contacts I could test drive for “traditional” LASIK, and they did. So the next day, I went back to Providence Eye and picked up my new lenses for Traditional LASIK. Wow, what a difference. Even though my close vision wasn’t as crystal clear as the Monovision lenses, I was still able to see my smartphone, type on the computer and see my watch. My distance was great and I felt comfortable driving. I’m making progress!
I’m glad I had the chance to test the different results of LASIK. That’s the first step in making me feel more comfortable with the surgery. The next step is the consultation. and I have to say, I received a call from the office to see how I was doing with the lenses and after I shared my experience they said I need to come back in for the next step. My heart sank. I realized that I am really going through with this. I got scared all over again! Now I am not sure what to do.
Have you been in my shoes? Do you have any advice?
