LASIK is a corneal reshaping procedure utilizing a thin flap of corneal tissue which creates a window so the underlying tissue can be reshaped with a laser. This is similar to opening a 550 page book to page 100 and changing the shape of the inside of the book, then closing the top 100 pages again.
Intra-LASIK is when the flap is made with a laser instead of a blade. Intra-LASIK has proven itself to be safer and more precise. It is also known as I-LASIK and Z-LASIK depending on who manufactures the laser although Intra or I-LASIK has a much longer track record and is more widely accepted as the standard in blade free LASIK compared to Z-LASIK. Wavefront refers to a process by which mapping information is used to customize the laser treatment.
