Distance & Reading Correction

LASIK can be an excellent option for distance and reading vision correction. Through a procedure called monovision, Dr. Mozayeni at Providence Eye & Laser Specialists can help correct both your distance and reading vision at the same time. Regardless of if your eyes are:

  • Nearsighted
  • Farsighted
  • And/or have Astigmatism

Dr. Mozayeni has been performing monovision LASIK for many of his patients since 1994. However, the advancement in technology has made it a much better option since 2004, when he introduced the WaveLight Excimer Laser to the Charlotte area and its subsequent upgrade, the WaveLight EX400 Excimer Laser in 2009.

What is Monovision?

With monovision, the non-dominant eye is set to be focused for near vision and the dominant eye for distance. The brain can “learn” to adapt to this, using the dominant eye for distance and the other eye for reading vision. During your consultation with Dr. Mozayeni, he will discuss your visual needs with you for your personal and professional life, demonstrate a recommendation and then tweak that recommendation based on your feedback. Once you have both found a scenario that feels comfortable, then you will move on to a monovision trial. Think of this as a “test drive” to see how you like it. We’ll follow up, talk to you about it, and tweak it if necessary. This is all about you and finding the best possible scenario to meet your visual expectations. We provide this service under the direction of Dr. Vanessa Mills and Dr. Zach Engle and our contact lens division.

The Test Drive

We normally recommend that you “test drive” monovision with contact lenses for approximately two (2) weeks. Often times a person will find that although the first few days may have some challenges, they really enjoy monovision after a couple weeks. If you and the Providence Eye team concur, then monovision can be created with either OptiLASIK All-laser blade-free LASIK or PRK - All-Laser, Blade Free, No Flap LASIK.

Correction Options

At Providence Eye, we always discuss multiple FDA approved options with you, but only recommend those that will meet your visual expectations and that we would recommend to our own family members. Which procedure, if any, that is best for you is dependent upon many factors that will be discussed at your consultation.

To achieve the best result, it has been proven that a comprehensive individualized consultation is required. Dr. Mozayeni plays a key role in this consultation process, reviewing all diagnostic testing conducted by his technicians, examining your eyes himself and talking to you about your health, eye health, lifestyle and desired goals.
